Match Review LS20 | Selangor FC 2-0 Sri Pahang FC | We Keep The Winning Momentum!

Selangor FC secured all three points in the 2024/25 Super League match against Sri Pahang FC at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya yesterday with a 2-0 result.

The match started with the first two attempts coming from Sri Pahang FC captain, Kpah Sherman, but was successfully saved by the Red Giants goalkeeper, Kalamullah Al-Hafiz. Then, Ali Olwan brought the ball past several ‘Tok Gajah’ players after receiving a good pass from Nikola Jambor and converted his goal in the 14th minute of the #SFCSRP match. The meeting between Kpah Sherman attempts was frequently met by Kalamullah Al-Hafiz but no goals were scored. The second goal for the Red and Yellow came after Quentin Cheng made a short pass to Ronnie Fernandez, before Ronnie beat the oncoming opponent and immediately took the opportunity to fire the ball into the Sri Pahang FC goal, beating Irfan Zakaria in the 39th minute. Next, in the 55th minute of the match, Ali Olwan almost scored his second goal of the match but VAR confirmed that the goal was disallowed. The #SFCSRP match ended in the 90th+4 minute without any additional goals in the second half.

According to Selangor FC Head Coach, Katsuhito Kinoshi, he hopes the team is not satisfied with this victory and wants them to continue to work hard.

“A 2-0 victory is definitely a good result. However, looking at the match, the team managed to score two goals in the first half but not in the second half, so we need to continue to progress to remain in the best position in the Super League, as well as for the MFL Challenge Cup Final. All credit goes to each of the players but I hope they are not satisfied and will continue to work hard to achieve more success,” Kinoshi stressed.

Several important things can be taken from the #SFCSRP match in the 2024/25 Super League competition yesterday, such as:-

Red Giants striker’s 15th goal

Ronnie Fernandez showed a good performance in yesterday's match and managed to increase his goal tally with the Red and Yellow. So far, Ronnie has scored 15 goals; 10 Super League, 3 in the MFL Challenge Cup, 1 in ACLTWO and 1 in the FA Cup. In a press conference after the match, Katsuhito Kinoshi stated that he was happy with Ronnie Fernandez's winning goal in yesterday's match, but wanted him to continue to work hard to achieve more success in the future.

Defensive solidness that deserves credit

Yesterday's clean sheet victory clearly showed that the players defended well, including the Red Giants' goalkeeper, Kalamullah Al-Hafiz, who managed to save the goalpost from conceding despite the opponent's attempts, especially Kpah Sherman, posing a high threat in yesterday's match. Likewise, the defenders; Safuwan Baharudin, Nikola Jambor, Quentin Cheng, Harith Haiqal, Fazly Mazlan and Zikri Khalili who managed to defend the attacks in the Final 3rd quite brilliantly.

MOTM Ali Olwan

Jordanian forward, Ali Olwan, managed to score the opening goal in the 14th minute in yesterday's #SFCSRP match. Although he almost scored another goal but was overruled by VAR, the performance he showed was fantastic. For his goal and hard work, Ali Olwan was named MOTM of the 20th Super League #SFCSRP.

So far, Selangor FC remain in second place in the 2024/25 Super League with 42 points, 10 points ahead of the third-placed team. With five matches remaining before the end of the league, Selangor FC has managed to collect 13 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats from the 19 matches that have been played.

Next, the Red Giants squad will be in action on the 2024/25 MFL Challenge Cup Final which will be played in a two legged match format. The first round will be played at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya on 15th February while the second round will be played at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium on 22nd February.

The Selangor FC management would like to express our gratitude to the supporters who came together and made the ‘First Pride Stadium Takeover’ a success yesterday. We greatly appreciate your support and cooperation.
